What is unusual about your hometown, place of work or job?

The U.S. Virgin Islands have a tourism-based economy. We got to be a hotspot during the COVID pandemic because we welcomed people once they were vaccinated. Along with Puerto Rico, it is an ideal spot for vacationers from the mainland.

What does this year’s theme, “Everybody’s Union” mean to you?

It hits home for me. It’s my first term as local president and without much help from my predecessor, I was able to keep my membership motivated by expressing that the union is ALL of us. We’ll have to be vigilant, enforce our CBA and stay united for the best work environment.

What issues will be important when your Local’s contract expires?

Keeping the work within the bargaining unit. The company is trying to union bust by giving our work to outsiders. If we show strength in numbers and solidarity, I feel it will be an eye-opener for the company.

What’s your go-to dance move?

The Whine – You can do it to any genre. Just let the stress go and get into your whine!

Every leader has a good tune to walk out to when introduced. What’s your walk-up song?

“Get Up, Stand Up” – Bob Marley

Who would you most like to have dinner with, and why: Jennifer Lopez, Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson, George R.R. Martin, Liz Cheney, Michael Jordan or Drake?

The Rock – With roots in American Samoa, in all he does, he tries to incorporate his heritage. Being from a smaller community, getting exposure, opening the door for resources, help, recognition and other tools to build a better community.

What things have you done or hope to do while you’re here?

I’m here to get as much information as I can! I’ve already got notes on my phone to take back to the local.

Have you yet decided how you will put the convention to work when you return home?

Absolutely! Committee building, especially with Women of Steel. As a first term president, I appreciate knowing support is there. I’m also excited about Power Building as my local and our sister local prepare for negotiations next year.
