What is unusual about your hometown, workplace or job?

I joined the Navy and was in for 8 years. Now, I build the ships I used to work on in the Navy. There are several military contractors in town, so it’s a military town. I like that it’s like a stew of people of all different kinds.

What does this year’s theme, “Everybody’s Union” mean to you?

What we do protects so many people, union or not. Everything we do affects the community around us. We’re building a better labor workforce for me and my daughter and her daughter.

What issues will be important when your Local’s contract expires?

It’s important that we make the jobs attractive to new people coming in, but it’s also important for us to realize that we’re working for a good contract for everyone – that means the new people coming in, people getting their pension and all the people in the middle.

What’s your go-to dance move?

I’m midwestern, so we two-step to everything.

Every leader has a good tune to walk out to when introduced. What’s your walk-up song?

“Bad Guy” by Billie Eilish.

Who would you most like to have dinner with, and why: Jennifer Lopez, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, George R.R. Martin, Liz Cheney, Michael Jordan, or Drake?

The Rock, because he’s funny and laughing and comedy brings people together. But also Michael Jordan because he’s a genius with his shoe brand.

What things have you done or hope to do while you’re here?

Zipline over the buildings. We’re also going to ride ATVs in the desert.

Have you yet decided how you will put the convention to work when you return home?

I’ve been a part of NextGen for three years. We’ve charged people who came to Convention to take notes, bring them back and give reports to the Local on what we learned. Everybody’s got to know what we learned because it boosts morale when people feel confident and informed.
