1. What is unusual about your hometown, place of work or job?

My hometown has a very poor health system and people are not taken care of and as a result, people are living lower quality lives. The infrastructure is also very bad.

2. What does this year’s theme, “Everybody’s Union,” mean to you?

The work we do in the union is something we can share with everyone, especially those who are not unionized. We unionized workers can help them know their rights at work but also to help them be able to join a union to fight for better wages and job protection.

3. What issues will be important when your Local’s contract expires?

Wages – the security sector is a minimum wage industry and members are always looking to get higher wages. This will help with retention. Benefits – improvement on benefits especially on prescription drugs.

4. What’s your go-to dance move?

Traditional Punjabi dance.

5. Every leader has a good tune to walk out to when introduced. What’s your walk-up song?

Scars to Your Beautiful by Alessia Cara

6. Who would you most like to have dinner with and why:

My father, who has passed. It would be such a blessing.

7. What things have you done or hope to do while you’re here?

Meet as many as people as I can – share our experiences and knowledge.

8. Have you yet decided how you will put the convention to work when you return home?

Try to implement improvements in my local union. My main focus is member engagement, so if I can get some ideas and knowledge from my fellow Steelworkers, it would be great.
